El Naranjo Announces Culinary Trip Giveaway

Austin, TEXAS – El Naranjo, Austin’s celebrated authentic Mexican restaurant helmed by 2022 James Beard Award-winning Chef Iliana de la Vega, announces an exclusive Mexican Culinary Traditions Trip Giveaway. Chef de la Vega, and daughter Isabel Torrealba, invite one winner and their guest to join them on their trip to Oaxaca, Mexico on March 8-14, 2024.

OAXACA CITY: Ancient Traditions Alive

Sitting in a valley, Oaxaca City offers stellar panoramic views of the surrounding mountains from anywhere in the city. Its colonial buildings, decorated with contrasting colors and green sandstone, set the stage for imposing baroque churches and convents, bustling markets, intricate arts and textiles, and an exquisitely complex cuisine with roots as old as the archeological sites around the city. Trip participants can expect a 7-day, 6-night immersion tour as the group ventures into the heart of Oaxacan culture. Experiences will include dining at both high-end restaurants and street market stands as well as visits to some of the smaller surrounding towns for an up-close look at traditions untouched by modern practices. “My mom and I started Mexican Culinary Traditions eight years ago with the intention of sharing our country and its cuisine with the world,” says Isabel Torrealba. “The intention is to become familiar with a place through its food, guided by a native chef and an anthropologist, leading to a deeper understanding of the culture, history, and people. Oaxaca has a special place in my heart because I grew up there, and it was also our first trip’s destination.”
