Villa Saletta: A Wine Lover’s Paradise
Located in rural Tuscany, Villa Saletta is one of the region’s most prestigious and historic country estates.
Steeped in wine-making traditions that date back to medieval times, Villa Saletta was once a borgo – or village – with numerous farmhouses and cottages, agricultural buildings, and an ancient church. During the 16th and 17th centuries it was transformed into a profitable working estate.
At the heart of Villa Saletta is a boutique winery that lovingly crafts an award-winning selection of red, rosé, and sparkling wines.
The current owners, Guy and Julia Hands, purchased Villa Saletta 20 years ago and have been considerate guardians of its legacy ever since. They revived the estate’s ancient winemaking heritage, which can be traced back to 980 AD.
Across 20 hectares of vineyards lie nine zones with their own unique soil structure and microclimate. These cultivate several grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Sangiovese. From these, an impressive 285,000 bottles are produced each year, with plans in place to further expand this heavenly production.
As a guest of Villa Saletta, you can immerse yourself in a world of wine, whether you would like a behind the scenes tour, an exclusive wine-tasting experience, or access to the estate’s most prestigious vintages!
You can stay in any of the three individual and thoughtfully restored villas, which are located close to the winery for a quintessential Tuscan vineyard adventure.
The villas boast original architectural features such as terracotta floors and vaulted ceilings, air-conditioned rooms, and shaded gardens. What’s more, each villa comes with its own inviting private outdoor swimming pool.
Villa Saletta honours each season, and you can join in the many harmonious nature-based experiences, from truffle-hunting to grape or olive picking.
You’ll also find a taste for tranquillity, as aside from the productive vineyards, you’re ensconced in a world of calming olive groves, hills, forests, fertile valleys, and wildflower meadows.
Despite its idyllic rural location, Villa Saletta lies just 40 minutes from the city of Pisa, and is available to book with a minimum week-long stay throughout the year.
