Velas Vallarta is once again inviting guests to celebrate the changing of the seasons with an authentic Huichol equinox ceremony on March 20, 2025. Rooted in the ancient traditions of the Huichol people of Jalisco and Nayarit, this sacred ritual pays homage to Tawerxik+a, Father Sun, with chants and prayers honoring the four elements—fire, water, earth, and air—as a way of expressing gratitude for life and welcoming the new season with renewal and balance.
The ceremony will take place on the beach in full view of the renowned Puerto Vallarta sunset at 6 PM. On arrival to the event, guests will be welcomed with traditional ancestral-inspired cocktails. Following the ceremony, guests will enjoy a special dinner featuring dishes inspired by Huichol culture and Mexican culinary traditions.
The celebration extends throughout the day with immersive equinox-inspired activities:
- Sunrise Yoga & Meditation by the Ocean (8 AM – 9 AM)
- Kids’ Equinox-Themed Arts & Crafts (Fabric Painting at 11 AM, Rock Painting at 3:30 PM)
- Cooking Class Featuring the locally heralded Pescado Zarandeado (1:30 PM – 2:30 PM)
For those looking to fully embrace the region’s ancestral traditions, sister property Tau Beach Club will also host a special five-course dining experience the evening prior to the equinox (March 19). The exclusive Fusion of Seasons: Ancestral Pairing dinner will feature indigenous ingredients like quelites, flowers, corn, and gorditas, paired with traditional Mexican beverages such as Tejuino, a fermented corn drink once used in Huichol sacred rituals.
