Mt. Washington: Snow in Love at The Glen House

January 31, 2024. Green’s Grant, NH. The White Mountains of New Hampshire are the unofficial capital of winter in the Northeast. Crowning them is the towering peak of Mt. Washington, and at its base lies The Glen House, the spectacular and award-winning 68-room hotel that’s the ideal basecamp for a perfect winter romance.

The hotel created SNOW in Love to welcome couples for a sweet, romantic getaway and winter fun in the White Mountains. It starts with two nights in a room with a snowy mountain view and two winter cocktails best enjoyed by the firepit. Stay with the gift of a plush blanket to bring home later and a wintertime treat from Zeb’s general store in North Conway.

For those who believe that winter is best enjoyed outdoors, Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center lies across the road from The Glen House and maintains 28 miles of world-class cross-country skiing, snowshoe, and fat biking trails, as well as a snow tubing hill. The facility also has a fully equipped shop for winter gear sales and rentals. The current snow report shows all 49 trails are open and groomed.

Alpine ski resorts are just a short drive from The Glen House and include such classic mountains as Wildcat Mountain, Attitash Mountain Resort, Cranmore, and Black Mountain.

Great Glen Trails is also the departure point for an incredible sub-arctic winter experience, a trip on the Mt. Washington SnowCoach. Board the SnowCoach and travel four-and-a-half miles up the snow-covered Auto Road to the tree line at approximately 4,200 feet on the 6,288-foot mountain, the highest peak in the Northeast, with views as far north as Canada.

Surrounded by the White Mountain National Forest and providing panoramic views of Mt. Washington and adjacent peaks, The Glen House has a dramatic bar and lounge area with a fireplace and floor-to-ceiling windows looking out on the snow-covered Presidential Range. It’s no wonder it was named “The Most Beautiful Bar in New Hampshire” by Architectural Digest. There’s also a fitness area and indoor saltwater pool, while The Notch Grille offers daily brunch and dinner, with a range of comfort food favorites.

After a day of skiing, snowshoeing, or riding fat tire bikes in the snow, the fire pit on the deck of The Glen House is perfect for après snow activities. On the other hand, a day spent curled up next to the fireplace and enjoying the stunning views of the Presidential Range of the White Mountains is also a fine way to spend a winter’s day.
