(BIWABIK, Minn.) – Giants Ridge – Minnesota’s premier golf destination set in the rugged beauty of the Mesabi Iron Range – announces both of its championship golf courses, The Quarry and The Legend, were recognized by Golfweek in their latest “Best Lists” for 2024.
Presenting the top public access courses in each state, the 2024 rankings saw The Quarry ranked first in Minnesota for the 10th consecutive year. Meanwhile, The Legend maintained its fifth-place ranking which it has held for the last two years after improving from sixth in 2022.
The Quarry received additional acclaim in the publication’s “Top 200 Modern Courses” rankings as it was tabbed T-122nd in the nation. Recognizing the best courses built during or after 1960, this ranking placed The Quarry in an elite class alongside courses such as Atlanta Athletic Club in Georgia and Whisper Rock in Arizona. The highly touted Jeffrey Brauer design was also the third-highest-ranked layout in the state of Minnesota.
Finally, The Quarry was also recognized in Golfweek’s “Best Courses You Can Play” list coming in at 44th in the United States – an improvement of three spots from 2023. This category acknowledges the top 100 golf courses in the country that are accessible to the public through non-member tee times, stay-and-play packages and other means of public play.
Golfweek’s elite team of course raters determines the publication’s annual course ranking lists. Each year, the raters evaluate courses, grading each nominated layout on a 10-point basis based on Golfweek’s criteria.
“We are proud to see The Quarry and The Legend held in such high esteem by Golfweek’s course rankings,” says John Kendall, Director of Golf at Giants Ridge. “We strive to set the bar high when it comes to our golf experience, and recognition such as this from Golfweek is a testament to the hard work and commitment of our staff to making Giants Ridge one of the best golf destinations in the country.”
Although Brauer designed both of Giants Ridge’s courses, each features a unique layout and character. The appropriately named Quarry is built on the site of a former sand quarry and iron ore mine. Dramatically raised tees and hazards forged from reclaimed and repurposed mine land set The Quarry apart from other courses and provide dramatic Iron Range vistas.
Another aptly named layout – The Legend – offers a truly memorable golf experience. Carved out of the Superior National Forest, the player-friendly resort course plays through towering pines and alongside glittering Sabin Lake. Commemorating its 27th anniversary this year, the design paved the way for The Quarry and spearheaded the Iron Range into becoming a world-renowned golf destination.
Golf groups can take advantage of multiple packages and specials throughout the golf season with as low as $92 to play one of the resort’s highly ranked designs.
