You may also stumble across the traditional Sicilian celebration of Novena di Natale, where children sing carols, read scripture, and light candles.

On Christmas Eve most towns congregate together in their main square to burn a huge bonfire (Lo Zucco) where you can join the locals on an atmospheric street procession. From 28-30 December you could head to Montaperto to witness the historic Presep Viventi, a living nativity scene.
