AMBERGRIS CAYE, Belize – April 3, 2025 – Cayo Espanto, the award-winning private island resort located three miles off the coast of Belize, announces the completion of phase one of a property-wide refurbishment. The barefoot luxe resort’s seven villas have been reimagined with modern fixtures, unique architectural elements, and expanded features that follow Cayo Espanto’s signature sophisticated approach to coastal design. Further enhancements, including contemporary furnishings, will be part of the next phase as the private island resort continues to set the tone for simple yet elegant stays.
“We are thrilled to welcome travelers who have stayed with us and those who will be experiencing the private island resort for the first time to enjoy the new interior composition that blends classic sophistication with our signature barefoot luxury,” said David Benzaquen, general manager at Cayo Espanto. “A core principle for our resort and team has always been to create a personalized and elevated stay that exceeds expectations. Reimaging the accommodations with contemporary one-of-a-kind design elements is a natural next step in continuing to achieve this goal.”
Using tropical wooden design fused with Moroccan finishings, known as Tadelakt, to enhance the architecture of each villa and corresponding private docks, the new look breathes fresh elegance into the unforgettable experience. Traditionally used in Moroccan design, Tadelakt is a unique method that provides a water-resistant surfacing with high-end look and feel. Villa showers, sinks, and bathroom or vanity areas have been upgraded to provide a modern and airy coastal setting. Elegant light fixtures along with the indoor-outdoor living concept complement the private island resort’s signature deep blue and crisp white color palette.
In addition to the interior composition, several of the villas have debuted expanded features. Casa Aurora is now home to an enlarged dock and overall living space along with special panoramic views while Casa Brisa and Casa Manana now include all glass shower concepts and fenced in gardens for additional privacy. Casa Solana has been fitted with an extended roof that provides additional covering for outdoor relaxation and enjoyment. Exclusive sea views framed by the new glass shower walls are now part of stays at the overwater Casa Ventanas. An expanded dock at Casa Brisa, larger gym, and the premier of a spa casita add to the opulent experience for guests as the resort enters the next phase of providing unforgettable private island stays.
Home to seven villas total, with one situated above water, the private island resort has long held a reputation for providing an exclusive atmosphere tailored to each guest, one that can be filled with unique regional and cultural adventures or pampered and relaxing activities. A personal butler, private dock, and customized meals set by the world renowned, and Belizean born chef all work to create an elevated experience that makes each guest feel as though they have been transported to their own private island.
