January XX, 2024 – Jamaica – Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts is excited to announce the debut of “Xaymaca”, an original production that takes audiences through Jamaica’s rich history and musical evolution. The show will premiere on December 4th at both Bahia Principe Jamaica properties.
Directed by Alejandro Alonso, Artistic and Creative Director of Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts, “Xaymaca” highlights Jamaica’s cultural history through music and dance. The performance reflects the island’s iconic rhythms, including Mento, Calypso, Ska, and Dancehall, offering guests the opportunity to connect with Jamaica’s musical heritage.

The performance is divided into four acts, each focusing on different periods of Jamaican history:
- Act 1: Arahuacos and the Spirit of the Bird Man – The first act introduces Jamaica’s early inhabitants, the Arawak people, and the Bird Man, a figure symbolizing freedom and wisdom.
- Act 2: Puerto Real and Nanny of the Maroons – The second act tells the story of Puerto Real, a pirate hub, and Nanny of the Maroons, a leader who fought for the freedom of her people.
- Act 3: Afro-Caribbean Rhythms and Urban Expression – This act explores the musical genres of Mento, Calypso, and Ska, as well as the influence of Dancehall in urban culture.
- Act 4: Redemption Song and Jamaica – The final act features the Redemption Song and celebrates Jamaica’s unity and cultural diversity.
The show also highlights the craftsmanship of local artisans through the hand-made costumes and sets. The designs incorporate elements of Jamaican culture, using textures and materials sourced from the island to create an authentic atmosphere.
In addition, Bahia Principe is proud to introduce Nayam, a new restaurant at both of its Jamaican properties, offering guests a chance to savor traditional local cuisines and flavors, including the island’s renowned jerk seasoning, bringing an authentic taste of Jamaica to the resort.
“Xaymaca” and Nayam are the latest additions to Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts’ all-inclusive offerings. The production and restaurant are a part of the resort’s ongoing efforts to provide guests with experiences that showcase local culture while enhancing their stay.
