It’s no news to anyone in Redding: We have trails for days – 215 miles, in fact, of groomed and rugged paths. Hiking trails, biking trails, trails for casual walks and trails for training runs. Staying on the beaten path is sort of our thing.
From the expert-level mountain biking of the Terminator to the calmer hiking of Davis Gulch Trail, these 25 trails are some of the best for 2025. For a deeper dive into biking trails, check out Visit Redding’s 2025 guide.
But why make Redding the go-to hiking destination in California—or even in the U.S.?
Four easy reasons:
Redding is the “Trails Capital of California,” with an impressive 215 miles of groomed and rugged trails within a 15-mile radius of downtown. That’s a lot of hiking and biking.
It’s more affordable and less crowded than many of California’s other destinations that attract hikers, cyclists and outdoor enthusiasts.
Sunshine is our norm – Redding is California’s Sunniest City. The region boasts some 300 days of rays per year, meaning the chances of good weather and dry trailblazing are high!
The views. Are. Amazing. Adventurers enjoy scenic views from the top of each mountain they ascend, while hidden waterfalls and glittering lakes provide backdrops for photos.
While all roads might lead to Rome, Visit Redding wants travelers to know that all trails lead—or should lead—to Redding. In addition, Redding has a charming and historic downtown with wine bars and tasting rooms, restaurants, shops and breweries. This summer, a new public market will open its doors adding even more culinary options to the landscape.
Starting in May, United Airlines will fly non-stop from Denver to Redding. In the meantime, you can fly non-stop from Seattle, Los Angeles and San Francisco with several connecting flights available.
