Discover Luxury with a Conscience: Arizona Resort Redefining Hospitality through Sustainability
A 2023 survey by Booking.com found that more than 80% of travelers surveyed say traveling sustainably is of the utmost importance for them. However, 51% of those surveyed say there are not enough sustainable travel options. One resort that is doing its part to offer sustainable options is the Sheraton Grand at Wild Horse Pass in Phoenix, Arizona.
Some of the resort’s current sustainability efforts include:
- Working with a local company to donate all wasted food to a nearby farm for animal consumption.
- Implementing phase 1 of a multi-year plan to build electric vehicle charging stations (the resort is targeting to build eight this year).
- Building 25+ water bottle refilling stations for resort guests.
- Converting lights in guest rooms to LED.
The hotel also has a variable frequency drive on all pump motors. The device is most similarly described as a dimmer switch allowing hotel staff to control how fast electricity is flowing. The device saves energy and has reduced electrical consumption by 40%.
As a Marriott hotel, the Sheraton Grand at Wild Horse Pass follows all other Marriott properties with its standard goal for sustainability. The resort is in the process of being declared a “Sustainability Certified ” property by LEED.
