Mahina & Sun’s at Surfjack Hotel & Swim Club Celebrates 10 Years  at the Forefront of Hawaii’s Cocktail Scene

HONOLULU, Hawaii (July 1, 2026) — For the past decade, Mahina & Sun’s has remained a defining force in Waikiki’s evolving culinary and cocktail landscape, serving locally inspired cuisine and inventive beverages while cultivating a strong sense of community within Surfjack Hotel & Swim Club. The property stands as an early driver of the retro Waikiki revival movement that has influenced a wave of design-forward, culturally grounded boutique hotels and swanky cocktail bars. As the iconic boutique hotel celebrates its 10-year anniversary, Mahina & Sun’s is entering a new chapter that further elevates its role as one of the neighborhood’s most beloved dining destinations and a first-of-its-kind cocktail bar in Waikiki with a New York-inspired energy and polish layered into a distinctly Hawaiian setting.

Since opening alongside the Surfjack in 2016, Mahina & Sun’s has shaped Waikiki’s modern dining identity, evolving from a buzzy newcomer into a true neighborhood anchor for guests and locals. Originally envisioned as a laid-back yet elevated gathering place that could reflect the spirit of contemporary Hawaii, it has grown into a cornerstone of the Surfjack experience and a destination for both locals and travelers seeking connection, creativity, and comfort in Waikiki.

“Our new offerings are about honoring where we’ve been while embracing where we’re headed,” said Lisa Taibi, Director of Food & Beverage at Mahina & Sun’s. “Over the past 10 years, we’ve built something that feels deeply connected to the community, and this next chapter is about expanding that story in a way that feels thoughtful and true to Waikiki. The new menu reflects that evolution being familiar in spirit, and full of unexpected moments and fresh perspective.”

Mahina & Sun’s has reintroduced breakfast, and this new menu along with refreshed lanai beverage and dinner menus underscores its identity as a community hub. Offered daily, the breakfast menu includes the “Acai Sunburst,” an island-fresh acai bowl with banana, pineapple, papaya, coconut, agave, and granola; “Island Fried Rice” with onions, peas, carrot, and sunny side up eggs; and “The Big Breakfast” served with eggs, bacon, sausage, grilled vegetables, has browns, toast, and a choice of baked beans or mac salad. Additionally, Taibi’s inventive new dinner dishes include the playful “Adult Happy Meal,” featuring a ribeye burger served with French onions, fries, and a martini; “Smoked Ahi Spread,” served with vegetables and bread; and the “Mahina Bowl” with spicy ahi poke, pickles and avocado over rice. The new menus balance comfort foods with innovation while reinforcing its sense of place within Waikiki’s evolving culinary landscape.

“Mahina & Sun’s has long been a place where both guests and locals gather to connect and build their community over fresh food and innovative cocktails”, said Christian Taibi, Bar Czar at Mahina & Sun’s. “Our new beverage offerings lean even further into seasonal ingredients, house-made elements, and layered tropical profiles, resulting in cocktails that feel both refined and fun, true to the identity we’ve created. Waikiki’s bar scene has continued to grow over the last decade, and we’re proud to be at the forefront of that evolution, bringing an authentic New York-style bar experience to the island.”

The cocktail program remains a defining pillar of the experience featuring handcrafted tiki cocktails using locally sourced ingredients to make in-house juices, syrups and tonics. Bar Czar Christian Taibi continues to push technique-driven, ingredient-focused drinks that highlight freshness and balance including “The Big Kohola” a punch bowl with elderflower, coconut water, and grapefruit with a touch of bubbles, topped with signature beach foam featuring Grey Whale Gin; “Mango #5” featuring local spirit, Okolehao infused with cardamom and kaffir lime leaves, Chinola mango liqueur, tangerine, coconut, and cinnamon; “Santa Poco,” celebrating a pre-Prohibition classic featuring end of tequila or agave spirits, Montenegro Amaro, and house made grenadine; and “Queen Anne’s Revenge,” from the bar’s Martini Royale menu, the coldest martinis in Waikiki paired with olive caviar, featuring a collection of South Pacific herbs, roots, and spices flash-infused into local rum, Kohana Agricole. The reimagined lanai beverage menu reinforces Mahina & Sun’s position as a standout bar in Waikiki and one of the most dynamic cocktail destinations across the islands, recognized as one of Hawaii Magazine’s Top 5 Bars in Hawaii.

“Mahina & Sun’s is an essential component of the Surfjack experience, creating a welcoming environment deeply connected to our local community,” said Lynette Eastman, General Manager of Surfjack Hotel & Swim Club. “As we celebrate 10 years of the Surfjack as Waikiki’s original mid-century modern boutique hotel, it’s incredibly meaningful to see this evolution while staying true to the vision that shaped this place from the beginning. Surfjack and Mahina & Sun’s each reflect a commitment to the spirit of local culture and authentic hospitality that defines who we are.”

The refreshed menus and cocktail program are a celebration of the property’s past and future, honoring a decade of impact while signaling an exciting new era for one of Waikiki’s most influential dining destinations. With its continued focus on community and creativity, Mahina & Sun’s remains a vibrant hub for locals and visitors alike, and a central part of the Surfjack experience, offering ongoing programming including live music performances from local artists and events including Swim Club Disco (every third Saturday) and the Big Chill (every first Saturday) featuring music across the decades. In addition to Mahina & Sun’s, onsite coffee shop ARVO at The Surfjack, and retail store Honolulu Pawn Shop by locals Kelia and Joe Termini continue to attract both guests and locals, turning The Surfjack into a landing spot for community gathering.

To celebrate 10 years, Surfjack is launching a special promotion that will be live through the end of the year. The hotel is celebrating by offering guests 10% for the years behind us, and 10% for the ones ahead for a total of 20% off room rates. When guests book 4+ nights they will receive a $50 dining credit to Mahina & Sun’s. Surfjack offers a stay with zero amenity fees, and as always, any dog, any size stays for free.
