Lepogo Lodges Unveils Thrilling Family Safari
May 2020… Lepogo Lodges’ Noka Camp, one of Africa’s few entirely not-for-profit safari lodges, is offering an exciting array of child-friendly activities to ensure families have an unforgettable South African wilderness experience.
The luxurious safari camp, set within the 50,000-hectare, malaria-free Lapalala Wilderness Reserve and home to the ‘big five’, extends a wealth of diverse and inspiring experiences for both adults and children to choose from.
Children and young teenagers are forever entertained as they embark on fun-fueled treasure hunts around the lodge, whip up a culinary storm with bush baking, and unleash their creative flair with mindful pottery making, trinket crafting, bush painting and jewelry making.
Come evening, families can wonder at the magical African night-sky and learn about the stars under the expert guidance of the in-house astrologer. The beautiful waters of the Palala River below can also be enjoyed by guests of all ages with activities including boating, fishing, frogging and river swimming.
Home to more than 60 mammal species, Lepogo Lodges’ private game drives mean families are able to observe an abundance of spectacular wildlife at a time that suits them.
Lead by an in-house expert ranger, guests can expect to spot rhino, lion, cheetah, buffalo, elephant and more, as well as some of the 300 different bird species inhabiting the reserve.
Tours of the nearby Iron Age site atop Melora mountain and the remarkable rock art of the Bushman paintings allow those seeking a more cultural experience to step back in time and uncover the area’s ancient history and traditions.
Parents looking to unwind after a full day of exploring can opt for a rejuvenating spa treatment in the privacy of their own villa. Families who wish to find equilibrium together can delight in a restorative open-air yoga or gym session upon the tree top yoga and gym deck, whilst meditating over the jaw-dropping views of the bush and beyond.
Lepogo Lodges has recently launched a carbon offset programme at Noka Camp. Based on careful research of emission figures, Lepogo Lodges calculates the carbon emissions resulting from each guest’s journey, from the time they leave their home to the moment they return. The figure is converted into a monetary value which is then donated by the camp into one of three conservation projects chosen by the guest.
Noka Camp consists of five stilted villas, including one villa especially designed for families. The villas are joined by a main lodge comprised of dining room, bar, lounge area and sprawling outdoor terrace, all perched atop a 100ft cliff overlooking the winding Palala River below and the endless bush ahead. The camp is entirely off-grid, with all energy self-generated by a bespoke, 250m solar walkway.
Lepogo Lodges will consist of two lodges, with a second property, Melote House, set to open in 2021. Ideal for multi-generational family travel, Melote House will be an exclusive-use property sleeping up to 16 guests.
Nightly rates at Lepogo Lodges start from R16,500 (£732*) per person, per night for a Luxury Clifftop Villa on an all-inclusive board basis, for stays booked to travel before December 2020. **Lepogo Lodges’ Noka Camp cannot accommodate children under 10 years old unless the camp is exclusively booked. Lepogo Lodges offers a truly extraordinary South African wilderness experience for families, couples and groups of friends alike. Lapalala Wilderness has ensured that there will never be more than three commercial lodges in the 50,000-hectare reserve, ensuring the rare combination of accessibility yet extraordinary privacy. Guests are able to try activities ranging from game-drives and water safaris, to yoga and spa experiences and tours of iron-age settlements and bushman paintings in the cliffs below the lodge. Lepogo also offers ‘luxury bush sleep outs’ which allow one to follow in the footsteps of the forefathers of Lapalala.
