For 24 hours, the island comes to a complete standstill as travel is paused, lights are extinguished, and Hindus are encouraged to meditate, fast, and refrain from all work and entertainment. A tradition unlike any other in the world, Nyepi is a rare opportunity to step away from life’s daily routines and embrace a collective moment of peace.

A Meaningful Nyepi Journey
From March 18 to 20, guests are invited to engage with the rituals surrounding Nyepi, beginning on Pengerupukan (March 18). The eve of Bali’s Silent Day features spectacular, uproarious processions of ogoh-ogoh, towering ceremonial effigies symbolizing negative forces that are paraded and ritually cleansed to restore balance ahead of the New Year. This year’s creations, Giri Murka and Danu Murti, reflect the eternal harmony between destruction and renewal in nature.
That evening, guests may take part in the Magical Megobog and Cultural Dinner at Kampoeng Bali, featuring traditional rituals, live performances, and authentic Balinese cuisine in an open-air, theatre-style setting.

On March 18, SAKA Museum’s Executive Advisor Marlowe Bandem will present an in-depth talk on the meaning of Nyepi and its related ceremonies, followed by an interactive session on March 20 led by Director Judith E. Bosnak, inviting participants to explore the museum’s collections as living narratives of Balinese culture.
Nyepi Day: A Sanctuary of Stillness
On March 19, as Nyepi is observed across the island, guests remain within the resort in full respect of the day’s traditions. The absence of outside movement creates a deep sense of calm, allowing AYANA Bali to become a sanctuary for reflection, wellness, and connection.
The morning begins with sunrise yoga, followed by low-impact movement sessions such as Aqua Pilates and Qi Gong, as well as opportunities for deeper relaxation through sound healing therapy, group sound bathing, and guided meditation. AYANA Spa’s Thalassotherapy Pool, one of the largest aquatonic pools in the world, remains open during the day, offering mineral-rich seawater treatments that promote circulation, muscular recovery, and overall balance.
Family-friendly activities encourage gentle engagement with nature and shared time together. Guests may join a guided morning walk through the resort’s landscaped grounds, explore traditional farming practices during interactive sessions at AYANA Farm, or enjoy indoor leisure facilities and dedicated children’s programs at RIMBA Kids’ Playground.
