Consorzio Costa Smeralda: Longevity Weeks Costa Smeralda Puts Sport at the Heart of the Story

PORTO CERVO, ITALY – August 5, 2026 – Costa Smeralda® is the most prominent resort destination in the world, where unrivaled luxury meets untouched natural beauty and authentic Sardinian lifestyle. Within this strictly preserved, low-density environment, Consorzio Costa Smeralda presents the Longevity Weeks Costa Smeralda, a two-week program inspired by Sardinia’s internationally recognized Blue Zone heritage and dedicated to the pursuit of wellbeing, healthy living and longevity.

Taking place from September 25 to October 11, 2026, Longevity Weeks Costa Smeralda will bring together sporting competitions, outdoor activities, holistic disciplines, medical talks, scientific debate and food experiences across Porto Cervo and its extraordinary natural surroundings. The ambition is to create an international platform where sport, science and wellbeing meet, in exploration of the relationship between longevity and the future of sustainable tourism.

Sport: Movement as a Pathway to Longevity

    • A packed calendar of competitionsopen to the public for every level of fitness, led by Sports Project Manager Sandro Salerno: tennis, padel, running, open-water swimming, as well as yoga and other meditative disciplines, both still and moving, such as ecstatic dance, azul, mindfulness and breathwork.
    • The 12km Pevero Health Trailwill host metabolic walks, with 11 fitness stations set among breathtaking views and Mediterranean scrubland.
    • The Waterfront Beach Arenais a brand-new venue created especially for the event: a beachfront play area where teams will compete in volleyball, rugby, football and beach tennis. Alongside a program of official sporting tournaments and amateur events designed to involve local and visiting participants alike.

Science: Where the Blue Zone Story Meets the Global Longevity Conversation

    • On September 26,a program focused on preventive medicine and healthy aging, led by Professor Antonio Desogus will bring together specialists across fields including vascular surgery, cardiology, rheumatology, public health, geriatrics and podiatry, examining the role of prevention, lifestyle and quality of life in supporting healthy aging.
A highlight of the program will be a presentation by Arnaldo Usai’s company, Digital Uniform, showcasing the data and findings collected through the development of Adaptive Arm, its patented wearable health technology.
    • This is followed by the Longevity Fest Costa Smeralda, taking place onOctober 3 and 4, a project conceived and directed by Pietro Mereu, which spotlights researchers, scientists, entrepreneurs and international experts. Among the topics under discussion will be “Cities and Longevity”, “Technology and Longevity”, “Tourism in the Blue Zones” and “Successful Aging”.

At the Table: Food, Territory and the Longevity Lifestyle

    • Placing the festival within the contexts and traditions of the region, the 2026 program will explore the relationship between food, territory and healthy living.
    • FromSeptember 25 to October 11, the Longevity Food & Territory Experience will bring together longevity-inspired menus in participating restaurants, a market showcasing local producers, show-cooking sessions and masterclasses, alongside “Eat & Move” experiences combining metabolic walking with a Longevity Kit packed lunch.
    • On October 2-3, Slow Food Gallura, led by President Mauro Monaco, will present a program of tastings and discussions exploring the link between nutrition and longevity, with a focus on Sardinian food traditions, including sourdough bread, extra virgin olive oil, raw-milk cheeses and natural wines.

Longevity Award: Steve McCurry in Porto Cervo

    • On October 4, acclaimed photographer Steve McCurrywill receive the Longevity Award Costa Smeralda. The award celebrates not age, but a lifetime of achievement shaped by enduring creativity, profound sensitivity and an unwavering curiosity about the world. One of the most influential photojournalists of our time, McCurry is renowned for his humanistic approach to storytelling and for capturing the dignity of people across cultures, most famously in his iconic portrait Afghan Girl.

A destination beyond the summer season

For the Consorzio Costa Smeralda, Longevity Weeks Costa Smeralda also represents a wider ambition: to position Costa Smeralda as a destination with a year-round cultural and experiential calendar, extending its appeal beyond the traditional summer season.

The initiative forms part of the Consorzio’s long-standing commitment to protecting and safeguarding a territory in which 96% of the consortium area remains green, stretching across 55 kilometers of coastline from Portisco to Liscia di Vacca.

By bringing sport, science, food and wellbeing together within this extraordinary natural environment, Longevity Weeks offers a new perspective on a destination often associated primarily with luxury travel. Here, the landscape itself becomes part of the conversation and the Blue Zone story provides a starting point for a wider discussion about how we live, how we age and how tourism can evolve in response.
