Key West may be known for lively nights and colorful characters, but Southernmost Beach Resort is giving travelers a new way to experience the island just in time for Book Lovers Day on Aug. 9: book in hand, cocktail nearby, and nowhere they need to be.
At Avalon Guesthouse, the resort’s intimate, adults-only retreat inside a restored 19th-century Victorian home, new Quiet Hours give guests a reason to step away from the action. From 1-2 p.m. every Sunday and Monday, guests can settle onto the shaded porch with a book, coffee, or cocktail and simply unplug for an hour.
A leave-one, take-one Little Free Library gives guests something to read during their stay, while the monthly SOMO Storytime series welcomes a local author for a reading, conversation, book signing, and a themed cocktail or mocktail. Each author also leaves a copy of their book behind for future guests to discover.
Guests might begin the day with beach or aqua yoga, spend the afternoon reading on Avalon’s porch, then walk into Old Town for dinner, live music, and the energy of Duval Street. Set across six oceanfront acres at the quieter southern end of the historic strip, Southernmost gives travelers the best of both worlds: easy access to Key West’s restaurants, bars, galleries, and nightlife, plus a private beach, pools, cabanas, and spa when they are ready to slow down.
